Study Options

Point of Grace Small Group Study Options for the Spring 2010 season.  (Deadline to submit group information for Spring Catalog is December 28th)

Option #1: The New Testament Challenge

The Gospels, the Epistles, Revelation, all of these are found in the New Testament.  What do you really know about each of them?  Have you ever read through the entire New Testament?  How about in less than three months?

Well, get ready!  That is what you will be doing if you participate in a group going through the New Testament Challenge, in 63 days!  Sound impossible?  It’s not!  By reading less than 15 minutes a day, you can read all 27 books in the New Testament and gain a greater understanding of who Jesus is and why these ancient writings are more relevant today than ever.

We will provide each group with a syllabus and a reading schedule.  You will also have access to a web page where you can download audio files of the readings.  In addition, an online blog will feature running commentary on the daily readings as well as other resources.

Who is it for?
•    Those who are not very familiar with the Bible and would like a place to start.
•    Those who have been away from the Bible for some time and would like to get back on track.

Cost: Free

# of Sessions: 10 (We encourage you to take the other two weeks to do a service project and have a group party.)

Option #2: The Life of Jesus and The Last Days of Jesus (2 six week studies)

With maps and pictures, outlines, key scripture verses, discussion questions, plenty of room for note taking, and a personal five-day Bible study for each session, these DVD studies will help you get the most out of The Life of Jesus and The Last Days of Jesus, both in your group and in applying what you learn to your life.

Unlike any other Bible study available, this visually stunning DVD series is written and taught by biblical experts—six professors with specialized areas of knowledge. Don’t let the word deeper scare you. These engaging and accessible studies are for everyone who wants to deepen their understanding of God’s Word and apply it more faithfully and effectively. In fact, a full one-third of each study is centered on modern application of Jesus’ life and teachings.

Hosted by Margaret Feinberg, who introduces each session from Israel, and filmed in locations as diverse as the Rocky Mountains, the Arizona desert, downtown Chicago, and Little Rock, Arkansas, each volume consists of six fascinating sessions. Each session is taught by a different teacher and emphasizes three components:

1. Historical and cultural background 2. An engaging, close look at the biblical text and its meaning.  3. Accurate, encouraging, and challenging applications of the Bible’s message to life today.

Who is it for?
•    Those who possess a fairly good understanding of the Bible and it’s message and would like to take a more focused look at the person of Jesus.
•    Those who would like a study that is rich with Bible and personal application/study.

Cost: $10 – $12 per individual or couple

Option #3: Romans Vol. 1

The most important idea in the Bible is how a Holy God can get a sinful man into Heaven and not compromise who He is.  Romans tells us just that!  It sits as a Master of the House before all of Paul’s writings.  It is the Bible in miniature.  It is the most important singular document ever penned by man and only inspiration could make it so.

In Romans Vol. 1, you will look at Paul’s unfolding logic and incisive reasoning as to the divinity and holiness of the Christian gospel.  When this book has been understood reformation and new life follow shortly.

Features 12 thirty-minute teaching sessions by Tommy Nelson covering chapters 1-8 of Romans. The setting of the series will reflect the mood and casualness that will help create life-changing discussions in your group.  Each session contains verse-by-verse teaching by Tommy and a brief closing that will set up your group discussion.  Each member also receives a companion study guide.

Who is it for?
•    Those who possess an understanding of the major themes of the Bible and would like to take a deeper look into the theological implications of Paul’s writings.
•    Those who have been Christ-followers for some time but feel as if they need to be stretched in their knowledge and love for God.

Cost: $199.95 per group (Less than $20 per person if group contains at least 10 members)

# of Sessions: 12

    Wade,

Judy and I are planning on continuing with our Small Group.

I think we are going to try to do the PURSUIT study from February – April.

Let me know if there is a problem with this.

    Thanks, friend.

    Tom
